In the beginning, Animaccord worked with a smaller budget and developing technology. The 3D models in the old version have a heavier, more tactile appearance. Character textures—such as the Bear’s fur and Masha’s traditional sarafan dress—looked less like digital vectors and more like physical clay or plush fabric. In 2008, Kuzovkov founded Animaccord Animation Studio, assembling a team of artists, composer Vasily Bogatirev, and sound engineer Boris Kutnevich (who also voiced the Bear). After completing the pilot episode, they posted it online. The series officially premiered on January 7, 2009, but the pilot episode had already laid the foundation, becoming the first step in the Masha and the Bear saga.
The old version of Masha and the Bear was created by Oleg Kuzovkov and produced by Animaccord Animation Studio. The concept was loosely inspired by a traditional Russian fairy tale of the same name, where a young girl tricks a bear into carrying her back to her village in a basket of pastries.
